DISRUPT Utah is a non-profit organization whose mission is to reduce recidivism while supporting a new generation of empowered young leaders. Our vision is to engage youth that are in state’s custody and those within low-to-moderate income neighborhoods to disrupt generational trauma, exercise emotional resilience, and actively commit to racial and social equity.
Our program curriculum addresses the barriers of body autonomy and intergenerational trauma healing with youth ages 11 to 17 and includes interactive workshops in psychoeducation and cross-cultural awareness.
DISRUPT Utah will bring awareness to and alleviate the deficits in resources for these youth and collaborate with community partners to address their needs - both emotionally and physically. Similar to our own cultures, our organization believes in the power of community. We are grateful to be a tool, in the tapestry of resources, making a difference in the life of young people.

Our focus population faces many barriers and largely consists of children of color, who are disproportionately taken into custody and incarcerated. Our curriculum addresses the barriers of body autonomy and intergenerational trauma healing with youth ages 11 to 17 and includes interactive workshops in psychoeducation and cross-cultural awareness.
DISRUPT Utah is passionately run by two women of color. We are women who have lived experiences with these barriers and are survivors of intergenerational trauma. As women with many years of experience working with young people, we understand that underdeveloped brains tend to process things differently, and may need alternative resources to support psychosocial growth. DISRUPT Utah is committed to empowering these youth as their brains are rewired, increasing social and emotional skills, and finding healing within.

DU is excited to work with community partners to address the unmet needs of youth in states custody. Below are the services we offer to help foster emotional resilience, and to disrupt the youth recidivism rates here in Utah.
DISRUPT Utah will conduct a pre-assessment surrounding DU's mission, values, and learning objectives. Following the pre-assessment, we will dive into fostering engaging discussion and critical thinking opportunities for young people while challenging current thinking patterns. A post assessment will be conducted to determine if the curriculum was effective in helping students better understand their trauma pathways, healthy coping mechanisms, the justice system (as it relates to them), and increase their emotional stability.
DISRUPT Utah Volunteers will journey with youth in the state's custody throughout their disruptive transformation. Volunteers will take great care to engage the youth in critical thinking conversations and opportunities, educate them about the court processes and their respective rights, advocate for resources, and encourage them to embrace self-efficacy and empowerment.
